President House
This building is covering an area of over 330 acres, including 12 acres of gardens, it is larger than Versailles. It was constructed in 1929 as the residence of the British Viceroy ,it is situated on Raisina hill. Built of red and white sand stone, this is rated among the largest residential buildings of the world and houses a complex of great courts, magnificent staterooms, stairways, fountains and gardens. It contains twelve and a half miles of corridor, 340 rooms, 227 columns, 35 lobbies and 37 fountains.
Parliament House
The secretariat, adjoining the president’s house. The foundation stone was laid by their majesties in 1911 at Darbra site can bee seen in red sandstone vaulted chambers at the bare of the two turrets. It was designed by Herbert Baker .it is next in excellence to the political building to the president house and possibly the greatest state office building in the world.
Laxmi Narayan Temple (Birla temple)
The striking Laxmi Narayan temple is popularly known as Birla temple is perhaps the city’s most popular Hindu temple. This is a great specimen of the best of the old Aryan religions as conceived and adjusted the modernism. Birla temple is situated on Mandir marg, west of cannaught place.
Laxmi narayan temple was built in 1938 by industrialist Raja Baldev Birla. Birla temple was inaugurated by Mahatama Gandhi. Designed in the architural style of Orrisa with a façade of white marble and red stone. Birla temple is having a large number of idols representing various Hindu gods and goddess like, Lakshmi, Narayan, Shiva, Hanuman and Ganesh etc. Adjacent to the same on the one side is Gita Bhavan containing a grand and attractive statue of Shri Krishna and beautiful paintings from the immortal epic of Mahabharta. Adjacent to this is Shees-mahal, where the idol of lord Krishna is placed in a mirror room. On the other side of the Birla temple is an excellent temple of Buddha. The back side adjoining of the Birla temple has been converted into artifical and miniature mountain scenery. The garden contains caves, scenes of falls, yagyashalla which present a grand spectacle.
Cannaught Place
Cannaught place is the New Delhi’s original shopping arcade. Cannaught place was planned as a part of Imperial capital in 1911. This to commemorate the memory of his royal Highness the Duke of Cannaught who visited India. It’s colonnaded arcades retain their colonial touch even though many shops are distinctly contemporary. Here the Palika bazaar, underground air-condition market offers you a nice place for shopping of every type .Close by, on Baba Kharak singh marg there are numerous government state emporiums. These emporiums offers you a glimpse of handicrafts of every state of India.
